about

After the successful release of their debut album in May of 2018 - including international magazine features on Prog and iO Pages, reviews on Metal Hammer, Powerplay Magazine, Rolling Stone India etc. along with extensive radio play around the world, the Yatin Srivastava Project is back to business in 2019 with a remix for a song off the debut album ‘Chaos // Despair’ titled Program.Obsolete. The remix looks back at the influences behind the album and also the previous live EP titled ‘Constructing An Acoustic Dream’, melding more Electronic, Ambient and Drum & Bass influenced sounds into the music.

With the song still being true to the original version, including the vocals of Pineapple Thief frontman and writer Bruce Soord, it also sees an addition of an orchestral style of arrangement with layered String, Cello and Vocal Harmony parts adding different textures to the song. Along with that, the addition of new analog synth sounds and percussive acoustic guitars give the remix a snappy sound whilst the Sub Bass provides a layer of warmth to the entire sound.

“I’ve always been extremely influenced by how artists have taken old songs or their old sound and made something new out of it by adding a few things here, subtracting a few there – especially something bands like The Contortionist, TesseracT and Dead Letter Circus among others have done to a degree of perfection. I wanted to see how far I could stretch that without being too out there, even including quite a few elements that would be common in mainstream Pop records that most people listen to today. For fans of the album and our sound, I think this take on an already existing song that they are familiar with would introduce them to a new approach of songwriting, resulting in something quite unique. On the other hand, it might also expose the music to a new array of fans who might not particularly be fans of the heavy sound but still dig the melody and the contents of those songs,” says Yatin when asked about what went into the making of the song and what motivated it.

Although Yatin handles most of the work behind the songs and the Project, he also collaborates with a lot of musicians to complete the sound. This time around though, he has taken all the responsibilities, being the sole person to work on the song – maybe hinting a completely solo stint in the future a possibility. The Beyond Despair remix of Program.Obsolete. will be released on all streaming platforms on 15.02.2019 and it is just the start of a busy year for Yatin Srivastava Project.

lyrics

Verse 1:

Restless slumber, the nights are longer than they’ve ever been
I woke and wandered, just who else is running free
Is the future darker, darker than it’s ever been?
All the walking wounded, it can’t just be me

Chorus 1:

We’re coming out of the dark, you’re coming home
We’re coming out of the dark, you won’t be alone
We can make it a start, just you and me
We can make this a start, ohh you will see
A new beginning now

Verse 2:

All of us without, a reason to live
Breathing into forceful, flames burn through, our eyes pain
We are one without, a reason to live
(Can we change?)
Forceful breathing into, toxic flames
(Can we change?)

Chorus 2:

You’re coming out of the dark, you’re coming home x2
