September 13th 2019 will see the release of Yatin Srivastava Project’s new single titled ‘Shape Without Form’, the first piece of original music to be released after the debut album ‘Chaos // Despair’, which was released in May 2018. The song features the newest addition to the Project’s lineup in form of a brand-new vocalist, Amani Kerr. Along with that, it is also the first Yatin Srivastava Project song to feature a writing and arrangement credit for Drummer Arjun Mathur.
Whilst Chaos // Despair cemented a strong Progressive Rock sound with its intricate songs, Shape Without Form is a departure from that in a way that it strips down the technicality and complexity to more of a straight forward Progressive Metal/New-Core sound. That along with a female voice and a different style of Synth Production shows the next evolution in the band’s sound, something that will be shown in more detail in further releases. But still at the essence, the song is about the melody and the impact of the lyrics, which is the most important feature of any Yatin Srivastava Project song.
“When I started writing new songs after the end of the Chaos // Despair cycle, Shape Without Form was one of the first ones that came out. I wanted to write something that was more upbeat, fast and would make the crowd jump. That was the main idea behind the construction and arrangement of parts as well. It’s also probably the first song where the Guitar parts really take a back seat and perform a more of a collective role rather than an individual one. For me personally, it was quite liberating to put more attention on other aspects of the track,” says Yatin when asked about what went into the song.
Lyrically, the song talks about how in general, the negative aspects of human interactions and emotions aren’t really given as much importance as the positive aspects and how, that creates an illusionary layer in the understanding of the world and people around us. “The lyrics certainly come from personal experiences and interactions, so it is indeed very deep rooted for me. I really wanted to bring that out so that people can connect with them easily and probably see something in the lyrics that relates to their personal experiences. On the previous album, I really had a hard time writing lyrics for the songs because I couldn’t really expand beyond the instrumental parts and arrangements whereas this time around, because the arrangement was already in place, it gave me a lot of room to actually convey what I wanted to say through the song through my lyrics. Besides that, I’m quite happy with how they came out and especially how Amani, our new vocalist was able to translate them to her voice. The middle section before the final break hits me every time,” comments Yatin. The band is already working on more material, and if this is even a small glimpse into what it would sound like, fans can certainly expect a new direction in the band’s sound.
lyrics
Verse 1:
I can't really say this
You don't want to hear this
I can't really feel this
In all that is exists in your head
I can't really feel this
Another existence
I can't really say this
Like you never existed
Verse 2:
Hold me closer
You will never get to know
This aching heart is made of stone
Hold me closer now
caress my torn up soul
your smell reminds me of home
Pre Chorus:
Tear me apart
Into a million pieces
I'll pick them up
And wait for you again
Chorus:
You can't really save me
You can't really face me
Hello my beloved
I've missed you for so long
Hello my razorblade
You've been gone far too long
