Disengage (feat. Aradhya Khurana, Daud & Yusuf Ramay)

from Quarantine Vol. 1 (EP) by YSP & Friends

about

22nd of January will see the release of yet another YSP & Friends track titled ‘Disengage’. A quarantine project that saw its roots in the early months of last year, the project is coming to its final conclusion with its final track featuring easily the heaviest and “Proggiest” song out of the ones that have come out. As was the case with guest appearances on earlier released tracks ‘ikigai’ and ‘Breathe’, Disengage features the powerhouse performance of Aradhya Khurana on Bass, only made larger than life with the complicated yet precise performance by Daud & Yusuf Ramay from the Pakistani Progressive Metal band Takatak on Drums!

Hitting around the 5 and a half minute mark, the song is a convoluted deep dive into the disconnectedness in society that arose because of the Coronavirus outbreak last year. The uneasiness is represented poignantly through the instrumentalisation, with alternative time signatures and polyrhythms giving the listener moments of sheer tension, frustration and eventually – release, “Lyrically, I tried to pin down what I was going through locked inside my house, with nowhere to go, nobody to see. It was really something that took a considerable time to come to terms with and the anxiety that came along with everything for me at least, was the main driving force behind the song and it’s lyrics”, says Yatin when asked about how the song came about. This is also the first time any YSP song features screaming vocals, an experiment that lends perfectly to the alarming tone of the song.

The YSP & Friends project came about in a very casual manner to fill up the time before the next YSP full length album is ready – and if this is any indication into what fans could expect from the next outing from the New Delhi based Musician, they will be very intrigued to see what happens next.

lyrics

Disengage, your fury's taken over
Don't even notice, discern now
In my room, I softly wait
For my demise

Disengage, the world is getting colder
We don't even notice, what happens now
Messenger, you warned us of downfall
We never listened

Please take my somewhere far away
Where nothing feels so real
No viruses within our cells
Where we don't burn away

Please take me somewhere far away
(Please take me somewhere far away)
No viruses within our cells
Where we don't die away

Disengage, the world is burning over
We don't even care about, what happens now

Ruled by fear, ruled by fear x 2
